The Fulton County Court has confirmed that former United States President, Donald Trump’s 2020 election fraud trial in Georgia will be livestreamed on its YouTube channel and broadcasted on live television.
This was disclosed by Judge Scott McAfee on Friday, revealing further that the new date for the trial may be till next year when Trump is running for re-election.
It was gathered the case will be the only one of Trump’s four trials that will be broadcast and could be one of the most watched trials in recent years, Reuters reports.
In August, SaharaReporters reported that Donald Trump was indicted by a federal grand jury on four counts related to efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to court documents.
Trump was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States, witness tampering, conspiracy against the rights of citizens, and obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding.
The charges were unsealed two weeks after the former president said he had learned he may be indicted by a federal grand jury investigating the siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
That’s when protesters loyal to Trump stormed the Capitol in an attempt to prevent then-Vice President Mike Pence from performing his ceremonial role of certifying the presidential election in favour of the winner, Joe Biden.
The development was the latest in a series of legal troubles that are likely to loom over next year’s presidential election. Trump is the front-runner among Republicans for his party’s nomination.
He also faces separate federal charges over allegedly obstructing an investigation into classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, his Florida resort.
