Police confirm cop, security guard killed in Kogi bank robbery

Fresh detail on the robbery attack on two banks in the Anyigba area of Kogi State last Thursday has revealed that one policeman and a security guard lost their lives during the shootout with the robbers.

This was revealed following the visit of the Commissioner of Police, Bernard Onuoha, to the screen of the crime on Friday.

The robbers, who attacked the two banks around 5 pm last Thursday, were said to have carted away large sums of money.

An eyewitness said the armed robbers, numbering over a dozen and wielding sophisticated weapons, stormed the town intending to carry out a large-scale robbery on some banks in the areas.


In a statement issued on Friday night by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of criminal investigation was directed to commence an investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to face justice.

“Consequent upon the Ayingba bank robbery as well as the attacks on police stations on Thursday, March 7, 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Bethrand Onuoha, today, March 8, 2024, visited the scenes for an on-the-spot assessment, vows that the hoodlums will be apprehended.

“He equally ordered the deployment of tactical teams comprising PMF personnel, counter-terrorism, quick response, and Intelligence units in synergy with other security agencies to restore normalcy in the area.

“Meanwhile, one police constable paid the supreme price during the exchange of fire with the hoodlums, before the arrival of the reinforced team to the scenes and the attackers fled,” the statement read in part.
