APC publicity secretaries demand justice for slain Plateau colleague

The Conference of State Publicity Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to leave no stone unturned until he unmasks and prosecutes the killers of the Plateau APC spokesman, Sylvanus Namang.

The PUNCH learnt that Namang, who hailed from the Mangu Local Government Area, was shot dead in the neighbouring Pankshin LGA where he attended a burial on Saturday.

Namang was said to be buying something in a shop in the area when the hoodlums gunned him down.

Recalling the weeks before his death, the National Secretary of the APC, Festus Fuanter, who described Namang’s death as a big blow to the party, disclosed that he received well over 20 death threats.

Reacting to his death in a tribute issued in Abuja on Tuesday, the Chairman of the APC Conference of State Publicity Secretaries, Usman Adaji, condemned Namang’s assassination.

The body described the killing as ‘a big blow, not only to the association but also to the entire progressive family,’ insisting that it was a death that should not be swept under the carpet.

“We urge the Inspector General of Police to ensure that those behind the gruesome murder are quickly arrested and brought to book. No stone should be left unturned in the police investigation as we have information at our disposal that the deceased received about 20 threats to his life.

“In more than four decades of his illustrious career as a journalist, Chief Namang had served as Editor-in-Chief and later General Manager of the Plateau Publishing Company; Commissioner of Information, Plateau State; Zonal Director of Federal Radio Corporation in charge of North Central; and the founding director of the defunct Details Newspaper.

“He was also a special adviser to the late Plateau State political leader, Chief Solomon Lar. Until his unfortunate death last Saturday, Chief Namang was the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Plateau State as well as the former Chairman of the Media Committee of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, for Plateau State. We convey our deep condolences to his family, Plateau APC and the national body.”
