FG must prosecute those behind killings -Anyaoku

A former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Emeka Anyaoku, has called on the Federal Government to ensure the prosecution of perpetrators of crimes across the country.

This, Anyaoku said, would curb the menace of increasing cases of killings across the country.

Anyaoku made this call during this year’s summit and award ceremony of Merchants of Light School’s Old Boys’ Association Worldwide which was held at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The summit was themed ‘Alumni Engagement in the Management and Improvement of their Alma Mater’.

He also enjoined the government to deploy military forces to apprehend and punish those behind the killings to serve as deterrents to others.

He said, “The Federal Government should devote efforts to find those responsible for these killings.

“What’s particularly depressing is that these killings occur and nobody seems to be held responsible and charged accordingly.

“The first thing the government should do is to deploy its agencies and forces to apprehend those perpetuating the killings because that’s the only way to address the problem.

“If they’re apprehended, prosecuted and punished, that would serve as a deterrent to others to continue the killings.”

This call came following the Christmas Eve attacks on communities in three local government areas of Plateau State.

Following the attack, President Bola Tinubu condemned and ordered the arrest of the killers.
