Adekunle Ajasin University Students Threaten To Block Ondo Roads Against Dangote Company Trucks Over Failed Promises

Naomi, who said that the company has failed to fulfill its promise, warned that the Dangote Group of Companies should fulfill the promises immediately or be denied access to all the roads in Ondo State.

The Students Union of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has issued a stern warning to the Dangote Group of Companies, threatening to block all the roads in the state against Dangote trucks over the company’s alleged failure to fulfill its promises made to the school in honour of victims who died in an accident in 2021.

The students union in a memo titled “Stern Warning To Dangote Group of Companies” and issued on Wednesday by its President, Comr. Adekanye Mayomi, said that the accident happened on January 23, 2021 and that part of the promise made by Dangote Group of Companies was to compensate and rebuild part of the school damaged by the truck and to immortalise the victims.

Mayomi, who said that the company has failed to fulfill its promise, warned that the Dangote Group of Companies should fulfill the promises immediately or be denied access to all the roads in Ondo State.

The students union President said, “I am writing this message to send a strong warning to Dangote group of companies over their failed promises to compensate and rebuild a part of the school in honour of the late victims that died in an auto crash caused by Dangote truck on January 23rd 2021.

“I have waited patiently enough for the promises to be worked on and to immortalize the victims. It is now glaring that Dangote is taking us for a joke and we will react accordingly.

“I am giving Dangote a very last opportunity upon the release of this memo to do the needful or be ready to face the wrath of Nigerian Students. We are assuring Dangote that failure to keep up with the said promises within this period we will ensure total shutdown of Ondo State roads against Dangote Truck.

“I have reached out to appropriate quarters to ensure compliance of this order and we are ready to protect the interest of AAUAites and ensure we immortalize the dead.
“My administration will not condone any lackadaisical attitude that will distract us from this goal. I can assure you that Nigerian Students are ready to occupy major roads if our demands are not met.”

SaharaReporters had in July this year reported that the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) accused the management of Dangote Cement Plc. of failing to fulfill its promises regarding some students of the AAUA who were crushed to death by a truck belonging to the company.

Six students of the university and nine others were killed on January 23, 2021, when a truck belonging to Dangote Group, rammed into a shopping complex in Akungba Akoko.

The truck which was heading for Owo from Obajana in Kogi State, had faulty brakes. The driver of the vehicle lost control and swerved off the road, ramming into some shops directly opposite the university.

Those killed included the former Students’ Union Government President of the university, Adesomoju Samuel and three siblings.

In a statement, NANS had berated the company for failing to immortalise the victims of the tragic mishap as part of its appeasement to their families over two years after the incident.

It gave Dangote Cement 14 days to fulfill all the promises made to the families and as well immortalise the victims of the accident, but the company failed to honour the students union’s ultimatum.
