Embrace reforms, institute tells educationists

The acting Director-General, National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, Dr Adebiyi Shofoyeke, has charged education planners and administrators to embrace innovations and ensure evolution of the education sector.

Shofoyeke said the institute would continually empower operators in the sector through the provision of specialised and relevant skills in planning, administration and management of education in Nigeria and the West African sub-region.

According to a statement by the Institute on Friday, the NIEPA boss spoke in Ondo during the opening of a three-day workshop with the theme ‘Reimagine the role of educational leadership, administration and entrepreneurship at the grass roots level’.

The workshop, which marked the beginning of the 2023 National Capital Training Programme, was designed to build the capacity of the over 200 education planners and managers across the education sector.

“Our world is evolving at an unprecedented pace and the education sector must evolve with it,” Shofoyeke told the participants.

The Director, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr Zubairu Abdullahi, who declared the programme open said, “There is no employment in Nigeria because we have not tailored our training experience to connect with the economy. It is not that there are no vacancies, it is because we are churning out people who are not relevant to the desires of the economy.”
