AFCON Qualifier: Super Eagles Camp Bubbles As Osimhen, Awoniyi, Others Arrive Uyo

The Nigeria National team camp is now fully active with all the 23 invited players reporting for duty

Head coach Jose Peseiro has received all the 23 players invited for the game against Sao Tome and Principe,

Leading the players in camp is Napoli forward Victor Osimhen, followed by Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman, AC Milan’s Samuel Chukwueze, and Empoli’s Tyronne Ebuehi.

Nigeria’s England-based contingent of Nottingham Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi and Ola Aina, Leicester City duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, Fulham’s Calvin Bassey, Brentford’s Frank Onyeka, West Brom’s Semi Ajayi and Southampton’s Joe Aribo have also landed in camp.

New Super Eagles invitees Torunarigha Jordan, Orban Gift, and Boniface Victor were among the first members of the squad to report for international duty.

Stand-in captain William Troost-Ekong has arrived from Greece, while Club Brugge’s Raphael Onyedika has found his way from his base in Belgium.

The presence of goalkeepers Uzoho Francis, Adeleye Adebayo, Leke Ojo, Nantes winger Moses Simon, and Boavista’s Bruno Onyemaechi has also been confirmed.

The Super Eagles players arrived at the Akwa Ibom State capital via the Victor Attah International Airport. They were received by the State FA Normalization Committee and taken to their hotel, Four Points by Sheraton.

Earlier on Tuesday, team coach Jose Peseiro arrived in Uyo with three of his assistants and assessed the playing condition of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, where the match will take place.

The team will hold its first training session later today at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Nigeria will trade tackles with Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday in the final qualifying match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles have already booked their spot at the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football, CAF has named Algerian official Lahlou Benbraham as the referee for Sunday’s clash.
