G’Bissau land in I’Coast
Nigeria’s Group A opponents at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off January 13, Guinea Bissau, arrived at Ivory Coast on Sunday, six days to the start of the tournament.
Guinea Bissau as well as Morocco were the first to arrive for the tournament. The Wild Dogs’ arrival set a huge milestone for the opening match, as they face hosts Ivory Coast in the opening match on Saturday at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe.
The Wild Dogs will face Nigeria in the last group game January 22 after Nigeria’s encounters against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday January 14 and hosts Ivory Coast four days later.
Nigeria and Guinea Bissau met during the AFCON qualifiers, when the Wild Dogs upset the Super Eagles with a 1-0 defeat in Abuja before Jose Peseiro’s men secured a 1-0 win in the return leg a week later.
Nigeria are currently camping in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates and are billed to arrive Abidjan on Wednesday. After today’s friendly against Guinea, Peseiro’s men will return to Lagos on Tuesday ahead of their departure.
Meanwhile, African Champions Senegal will arrive in Ivory Coast for their title defence on Tuesday January 9. Also due for Tuesday is record seven-time winners Egypt and Mozambique.
East Africans and co-hosts of the 2025 AFCON Tanzania are scheduled to arrive on Monday, January 8 at midday from Dar es Salaam.
