Tompolo’s security firm tackles Navy over oil theft allegation
The management of Tantita Security Services Limited on Friday denied involvement in illegal activities along the coastal areas of Ondo state.
The Nigerian Navy in a statement on Thursday by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan while announcing the arrest of a 77-meter-long vessel accused Tantita of being involved in illegal activities.
Reacting, in a statement by its Executive Director – Operations and Technical, Warredi Enisuoh described the Navy’s allegations as bizarre, and mischievous.
He noted that the Navy personnel rejected demands by the NNPC for a joint inspection of the vessel by the agencies involved for no genuine reason.
The statement partly read, “Our attention has been drawn to a defamatory and libelous statement made by the Nigerian Navy against our organisation, Tantita Security Services Limited.
“We are indeed saddened and disappointed that the Nigerian Navy could descend so low as to make such bizarre accusations against our organisation knowing same to be false.
“Perhaps they are not aware that video evidence of what transpired between the Tantita operatives and the Nigerian Navy at the scene exists and has been transmitted to the highest authorities.
“We will therefore not join issues with the Nigerian Navy as we are well aware that Nigerians know who is who.”
The PUNCH reports that in September 2023, Tompolo’s firm and the Nigerian Navy had altercations with the Tantita accusing Navy of shielding oil thieves and arresting its personnel.
