Benue bandits kill two guards, woman

Gunmen have reportedly killed a woman and two security guards in Ugba, the headquarters of Logo Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent gathered that the guards were killed in Ugba, while the woman was shot dead at Abeda-Shitile, all in Logo LGA.

Several others were reported to have sustained varying degrees of injury as the hoodlums opened gunfire on villagers on Thursday.

A former chairman of the council, Terser Agber, who spoke to journalists on the phone, confirmed the death of the two men.

He said, “Yes, two people who were officers of a disbanded vigilante group were killed by gunmen; they were personnel of the present volunteer guards.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Benue Community Volunteer Guard, Ahokegh Terkimbi, told our correspondent on the telephone that two people were killed by the gunmen.

Terkimbi, who said he had yet to get details of the incident, noted that the men served in a defunct vigilance group in the area before one of them was recently trained while awaiting induction into the BCVG.

The state police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, said she was not aware of the incident.
