15 Persons Feared Dead In Boat Accident In Adamawa State


The local boat was said to have been carrying about twenty passengers on board according to him but only six were rescued by local divers and a bigger boat which arrived at the scene.

No fewer than 15 persons were feared dead in a local boat accident in Adamawa State, SaharaReporters has learnt.

The boat reportedly capsized while conveying locals including children in a popular Njuwa lake across Rugange village in the Yola South Local Government Area of the state on Friday afternoon.

An eyewitness identified as Faisal Dabo Rugange, who spoke to SaharaReporters, said the sad incident happened when the victims were crossing to the Yola town for their routine local businesses where heavy windstorm blew waters into the boat and capsized instantly.

Faisal, who complained of perennial suffering by Rugange community as a result of overflow by large volume of water along River Benue, called on the government to provide the people with bigger engine boats.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Suleiman, the State Coordinator, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency confirmed that one had been confirmed dead while 17 bodies were yet to be discovered.

Also, it was learnt that five others had been rescued as of the time of filing this report.
