OAU students chase out representatives of ex-VC
Students of Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife on Monday chased out the representatives of former Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Wale Omole during a freshers orientation programme.
The Nation learnt that a traditional ruler, Laaroke of Wanikin, Oba ‘Kole Ojutalayo came with others to represent the foundation of the ex-vice at freshers orientation when they were chased out by students agitated over the 1999 cultist killing saga of five OAU students.
IProfessor Wale Omole was the VC of the institution during the gruesome killing of George Iwilade(Afrika) and four others in 1999 with student alleging he had something to do with it.
On Monday, when the representatives of the ex-VC(Omole) arrived at Oduduwa Hall, the students, including the Student Union (SU) leadership, staged a protest in front of the hall chanting Aluta songs and insisting the ex-VC and his representativeslack moral standing to address any student over killing of Afrika and others in 1999. When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Student Union(SU), Comrade Aka Daniel confirmed that students chased out the representatives on the ground that he may have something to do with the 1999 incident.
However, the management of the school through its spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju berated the action of the students.
He said: “It is so unfortunate that the student did not understand the difference between Omole Foundation and the person of the VC. It was his foundation that was in school today and they were chased out.”
