The Ogun State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, summoned the executives of the National Union of Road Transport Workers as well as the officials of the Ministry of Transportation over the crisis rocking the union and the tension it has generated in the last few days.

The assembly asked the union executive members and the officials of the ministry to appear before it on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 2.00 pm.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, issued the invitation while responding to the submission of the Minority Leader, Lukman Adeleye, who raised the issue of an attempted breach of public peace by the members of the transport union especially in the Ogun-East axis under matter of urgent public importance.

Elemide stated, “The Assembly has the responsibility to promote peace and security in all parts of the State, hence the need to intervene when necessary to restore peace.”

Earlier in his presentation, Adeleye said, “Since the transport unions are a creation of the legislation passed by the Assembly, there is a need for it to intervene and call the attention of government, security agencies and other stakeholders to prevent any impending breach of peace.”

The Speaker equally called on security agencies to further strengthen networks towards stemming the spate of cult killings in some parts of the State.

Elemide made the call while reacting to the Saturday gruesome murder of one Adeleke Adeyinka said to be the All Progressives Congress Ward 15 councillorship candidate of Abeokuta South Local Government for the council elections slated for November 16.

The Speaker counselled parents and guardians to monitor their wards to avoid acting inimical to peaceful co-existence in the society.
