Late Adekunle’s family empowers widows, others in Oyo

The family of the late Brigadier General Benjamin Adekunle, on Tuesday, empowered widows, students, as well as less privileged in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The initiative was part of the 10th-year remembrance of the late Civil War hero, which took place at the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

The family distributed foodstuffs, clothes and cash to widows, while students of the School for the Blind, Ogbomoso, and some other primary school students were presented with cash gifts, school bags, uniforms, sandals, and exercise books.

Speaking during the presentation of the items, the deceased eldest daughter, Busola Olagunju said, “This event aims to provide support for those in need during this challenging time.

“Distribution of foodstuffs, clothes and cash to widows and presentation of school bags, uniforms, sandals, and exercise books to primary school students and a cash donation to students of the School for the Blind, Ogbomoso, is part of our mission to alleviate the impact of economic hardship faced by many Nigerians.

“Our father was a strong pillar of our family. He always extended assistance to both relatives and strangers. Today’s event focuses on orphans, the needy, and widows, reflecting his core beliefs”, she explained.

In his welcome address, Olusegun Adekunle assured the attendees that the family would continue to carry out meaningful initiatives to keep his memory alive.

The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Olaoye, Orumogege III, and the Onpetu of Ijeruland, Oba Sunday Oyediran were represented by their traditional chiefs.

Two of the beneficiaries of the items, Risikat Olaoye and Ojo Daniel, respectively, expressed their gratitude to Adekunle’s family for their generosity and offered prayers for continued blessings upon them.

Among the dignitaries were former Chief of Staff to late former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, Saka Balogun; Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, Taofeek Abdulahmed and a host of others.
