The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, FORMOSO, in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has provided free medical services to more than 2,000 residents of Beletieama, one of its host communities.

PUNCH Online gathered that the Navy had earlier conducted a wellness survey to ascertain the prevalent health challenges in the community before selecting it for the medical outreach and determining the services provided.

The free medical services included routine check-ups, medication provision, health education, distribution of insecticide-treated nets, and free medicated glasses, among others.

The Commanding Officer of FOB FORMOSO, Captain Ifeanyichukwu Charles Mabeokwu, was represented at the event on Sunday by his Executive Officer, Commander Muhammad Abdullahi Gada. Gada stated that the exercise aimed to strengthen and deepen the civil-military relations between the community and FOB FORMOSO.

Mabeokwu stressed that the medical outreach was part of non-kinetic approaches supporting Operation DELTA SANITY III.

He noted, “The outreach is a key component of the Nigerian Navy’s Corporate Social Responsibility. Under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, it is our pleasure to ensure that over 2,000 residents of the Beletieama community benefit from our general healthcare services.

“The turnout is impressive, and I am confident that the overall objectives of this exercise will be achieved.”
During the exercise, beneficiaries were encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunity and to address their health concerns promptly.

One of the beneficiaries, Chief Darius Ebenezer, praised the Nigerian Navy for the free medical services and expressed satisfaction with the number of tests conducted and the medication provided.

Another beneficiary, Mrs. Biolagha David, also commended the Nigerian Navy for selecting the community for the medical outreach. She stated that her people were delighted with the gesture from FOB FORMOSO and pledged to hold the Nigerian Navy in high regard.
