Amnesty programme administrator preaches unity
The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro, has called for unity and collaboration among all the critical stakeholders to deepen the impact of the programme in the Niger Delta region and also to align PAP with the vision of President Bola Tinubu.
Otuaro made the call in Warri, Delta State on Saturday, while addressing the second phase in the five-day stakeholders engagement meeting with coordinators drawn from states of the region.
Otuaro assured that President Tinubu is committed to the development of the Niger Delta, adding that he believes that with the President’s support, the amnesty programme can reach new heights.
The engagement programme was part of the modalities put in place by Otuaro to implement the amnesty programme effectively and sustain peace, security and development in the Niger Delta.
Otuaro, while addressing the gathering, stressed the importance of inclusive development just as he highlighted the need to correct irregularities within the current system to ensure that the benefits of the programme are evenly distributed and accessible to all eligible participants.
He disclosed that arrangements are in top gear for “foreign scholarships and skill acquisition, extensive training programmes and empowerment for those who have already undergone training will contribute greatly to human capital development”.
He said, “If we can sustain this peace and generate great ideas, I am confident that we can present a compelling case to President Bola Tinubu.”
While canvassing for unity among stakeholders, Otuaro urged them to avoid divisive actions and to communicate any genuine concerns directly to him.
He announced plans to engage with critical stakeholders who are not currently beneficiaries of the Amnesty Program, aiming to include them in the development process through initiatives similar to the PACOSOL framework.
The engagement meeting, which has brought together various stakeholders of Phase 2, is part of a broader consultation program designed to refine and expand the Amnesty Programme.
Otuaro harped on working together and using available resources to achieve sustainable development and lasting peace in the Niger Delta.
