Ex-commissioner clears medical bill of indigent patients at LASUTH
The immediate past Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Lagos State, Pharm (Mrs) Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf on Thursday cleared the medical bills of no fewer than 20 indigent patients on admission at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital(LASUTH).
The beneficiaries were largely patients who had been discharged but had no money to pay for the hospital bill.
Akinbile-Yussuf and her team were received by the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo.
The gesture according to the commissioner was part of the activities to mark her 50th birthday coming up next week.
Medical consumables such as bandages, plasters, and disinfectants among others were also donated for the use of patients at the hospital.
Fabamwo commended Akinbile-Yussuf for extending her gesture to LASUTH, praying that God grant her a long life as she marked her golden birthday.
Speaking, Akinbile-Yussuf said: ”This is not the first time we are giving back to the society. We know that the government cannot do everything alone hence we have chosen LASUTH this time around.
‘’It is important that we give back to society starting with LASUTH because as a former member of the state cabinet, the Lagos State government has invested so much in this hospital. As a commissioner, there was a time I visited this hospital and I had to pay the bills of indigent patients, hence, I am here once again for the same purpose.”
