Suspected gunmen kill octogenarian, wife in Abuja
Eighty-year-old Adebola Ezekiel and his wife, Abiodun have been discovered dead in their apartment at Apo area in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
According to findings, they were attacked by gunmen on Monday night at the upscale Apo Legislative Quarters in the Apo area of the FCT around 11pm.
The elderly couple, confined to a wheelchair, according to an eyewitness, had their throats slit by the assailants using a dagger.
A resident, who requested anonymity, said one of the apartment’s windows was forcibly opened and the couple’s bodies found in a pool of blood.
The son of the victims, unable to reach his parents by phone, sought assistance from a neighbour to check on them.
Upon arrival, the locked door prompted the neighbor to break in, revealing the gruesome scene.
Reacting, the FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident.
According to her: “The incident occurred on the 1st of April at about 10pm, following a distress call by the Estate Manager of Zone D 1st gate, Apo Legislative quarters to Apo Divisional Police Headquarters that one Seun Ezekiel, called to report that his parents who reside in the estate are not responding to their calls and with his permission, they brought down the window protector of the kitchen was forced to gain access into the house. Only to discover the bodies of his parents: Adebola Ezikiel and Abiodun Ezikiel in the pool of their blood, with their throats slit by yet-to-be identified persons.
“The Commissioner of Police visited the Crime Scene and ordered the Criminal Investigation Department to commence a discreet investigation immediately. The outcome of investigations will be communicated in due course”.
