Eight injured as ‘Molue’ crashes into median on Lagos expressway – The Nation Newspaper
Eight people were injured in the early hours of Friday when a commercial bus, popularly known as a ‘Molue,’ crashed into the median on the Ahmadiyya-Abule Egba expressway in Lagos.
The accident, which occurred during rush hour, caused heavy traffic disruption as emergency responders worked to rescue the victims and clear the site.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, with registration number KTU 801 XM, was speeding when the driver lost control while trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle and pedestrians.
It was gathered that the abrupt swerve led the bus to hit the median and overturn.
Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) quickly arrived at the scene, facilitating the evacuation of the injured and restoring order.
Among the victims were five males and three females, including the driver, who suffered a fractured arm.
Medical personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) transported the injured to the General Hospital in Ile-Epo for urgent treatment.
LASTMA, in collaboration with officers from the Meiran Police Division, managed traffic and provided security. The overturned bus was removed to ease congestion and restore normal traffic flow.
Speaking on the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sympathy for the victims and wished them a speedy recovery.
He emphasized the need for strict adherence to traffic regulations, particularly speed limits, to prevent such occurrences.
“This unfortunate incident highlights the dangers of speeding and the importance of vehicle maintenance. We urge all drivers to exercise patience and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey,” Mr. Bakare-Oki said.
