The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support in empowering local governments to fulfill their constitutional mandates.

ALGON gave the gratitude at its 51st National Executive Council Meeting (NEC) held in Katsina State.

Key resolutions underscoring the association’s commitment to strengthening local governance in Nigeria were made during the meeting.

The association’s communique, signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Hamisu Anani Mohammed and other committee members also commended the judiciary for its role in entrenching a viable local government system, which it said, aligns with the popular will of the masses.

It also appreciated the efforts of state governors and the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) for conducting local government elections in over 30 states that now have democratically elected chairmen steering the councils.Related News

The communique urged the remaining states to follow suit so as to fully have a system that is people oriented according to the vision of President Tinubu.

It passed a vote of confidence in its new National President, Engr. Bello Lawal, and his Exco, describing their leadership as focused and innovative.

“We appreciate ALGON president and his Exco members for their efforts in engaging development partners on primary health, disease control, and other health safety nets as the strength of every society lies in the health of its citizenry,” the NEC said.

The meeting encouraged members across the 774 local governments to activate strategies for effective resource management and to remain inspired by the Supreme Court judgment and performance appraisals of their constituents.

Assuring a robust relationship with governors, ALGON reaffirmed its dedication to good governance, pledging to deepen its symbiotic relationship with stakeholders, by promoting transparency and accountability in service delivery at the grassroots.
