Ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League  (NPFL)  Matchday 15 fixture against Plateau United in Benin this weekend, players and officials of Bendel Insurance has thank  Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for keeping steadfast with the team despite their precarious situation at the bottom of the table.

The Benin Arsenal have been struggling all season culminating in the recent  resignation of Monday Odigie but  some  players said the fatherly  support of  Governor Okpebholo since he came on board has given them the necessary fillip to fight their way out of the relegation zone even as they made  clarion call on the state’s  number one citizen not to relent on his concerted efforts to keep the team out of the waters.

“Nobody is happy with our present position on the  NPFL table and we must thank our amiable Governor Monday Okpebholo who has shown so much enthusiasm towards our plight since he was sworn into office,” a member of the coaching crew who craved anonymity, told our correspondent on the team’s  return from Lafia on Thursday where they lost to  2-1 to Nasarawa United.

“But for the assistance of  Governor Okpebholo, we would have found it difficult to honour our last four matches because we were barely surviving before he came on board

“ But going forward, I think we need a well- structured management team in place  so that all necessary  logistics can be put in place towards the success of the team.

Governor Okpebholo has already shown that he has the interest of Insurance at heart, we are only seeking  further intervention so as to boost the morale of the team,” he added.

Speaking in the same vein, one of the players signed to bolster the chances of Insurance  in the on-going campaign, said the team  can  overcome their current difficult  with the firm  support of Governor Okpebholo, adding  the entire players have resolved  to  work their socks  starting with this weekend’s home game against the  visiting Plateau United.

“Of course, we can get  better  and this is even  more important  with the kind of support we are getting  from Governor Okpebholo,” he stated matter-of-factly. “What  we need more is  motivation  for this team because without adequate  financial support, it’s difficult to cope with the stress of playing in the NPFL.

“We came  back from Lafia where we narrowly lost to Nasarawa United   only on Thursday and on Saturday, we are facing  Plateau United.

“ I have no doubt that  we can bounce back  to our winning ways   but we can  only succeed  with  the full support of  the people and government of Edo State  and particularly, Governor Okpebholo,” he added.
