NYSC commends Gombe for supporting corps members’ feeding
The Gombe State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, Chinwe Nwachuku, has thanked the state government for its consistent support in augmenting the feeding of corps members during their orientation programme.
Nwachuku gave the commendation on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream I corps members at the temporary orientation camp in Amada, Akko Local Government Area of the state.
During the event, no fewer than 1,291 corps members—comprising 690 males and 601 females—were sworn in by the state Chief Judge, Halima Mohammed, who was represented by Justice Yahaya Abubakar.
“I also want to seize this opportunity to thank immensely His Excellency for always coming to our aid in terms of augmentation of feeding during every orientation course.
“Sir, we are indeed very grateful, and we know that it is as a result of the unflinching love you have for the scheme and the youths in the country as a whole,” Nwachuku said.
She further lauded the government for its ongoing efforts to provide a permanent orientation camp, expressing optimism about the project’s completion.
“However, we will continue to renew our appeal to the state government towards the fulfilment of its commitment to providing a befitting orientation camp in the state. I wish to thank His Excellency because my dream of hopefully hosting the next orientation camp at our ultramodern, state-of-the-art facility seems to be seeing the light of day.
“I must say that it is such a magnificent edifice, and I am sure it will be the best orientation camp in the country if completed. It will go a long way in addressing the challenges posed by a temporary camp. Sir, thank you for making my dream come true,” she added.
Nwachuku also emphasised the role of the NYSC scheme in fostering national unity and cohesion.
“This will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria,” she noted.
Addressing the corps members, Nwachuku urged them to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, highlighting the importance of self-reliance in a competitive job market.
“It was in realisation of this that the scheme introduced the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training to enable you to learn and identify your skill potentials toward attaining self-reliance and sufficiency.
“I, therefore, encourage you to avail yourselves of this golden opportunity and develop your entrepreneurial mindset by choosing from any of the skill areas and making yourselves available for the training, which starts from the orientation camp.
“On our part, management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme,” she added.
Declaring the orientation course open, the governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, welcomed the corps members and assured them of their safety during their stay in the state.
