Over 10,000 to grace 2024 Lagos Women Run
The organizers of the Lagos women Run 2024 said that over 10,000 women have registered to participate in this year’s Lagos Women Run slated to hold November 9th.
The Convener of the Lagos Women Run, Mrs. Tayo Popoola, revealed this at a media conference in Lagos, saying: “As at Monday, we have over 7,895registered online and offline is about 5,000 forms in which we are still sorting.
“Lagos Women Run is an advocacy for sustainable development. We are doing this because we believe we need a platform where women can support each other, communicate, and network, so Lagos Women Run is a networking platform for women.
“The theme is More Than A Run, it comes with an empowerment programme which is part of our focus to help, empower women and give them something reasonable to take back home that will put food on their table, that is why this year theme is More Than A Run, a lot of women will learn a lot of craft works.
“Also, we use the run to celebrate the beauty of Lagos and promote it, this is Lagos and it will remain Lagos, and also to make it to be what people see it to be, Lagos has been the only state to accommodate, help and support people, and Lagos is a land of opportunity for everyone”. She said that every participant will get a special gift, and the empowerment programme will run for about three days at Teslim Balogun Stadium Hall.
“Lagos State governor has really supported us in many ways with every resource at their disposal. It’s more than a run, it’s a place to showcase ourselves, beauty of Lagos, we women are coming,” she said.
The take off point for the 10, kilometre run is Tafawa Balewa Square through Outer Marina, towards Muritala Mohammed way Victoria Island connecting Akin Adesola Street to Falomo Round about connecting Awolowo Road, Ikoyi then terminated at Mobolaji Bank Anthony Arena, Onikan Lagos.
Meanwhile, the Director General, Lagos State Sport Commission, Lekan Falolu, said the impact of the event on the state and sport in Lagos state, will boost the social economic progress, we are attracting woman from different part of the state.
He commended the organizer for their on-going effort to make sure everyone lives in peace and shared ideas to enjoy a common platform, and the introduction of the empowerment programme.
Also Speaking, Chairman, Lagos State Athletics Association, (LSAA), Dr. Dayo Solomon Alao, said that the Lagos Women Run as being on our conscience for the past 8year, according to him, they have run for Cervical Cancer, Breast Cancer, Infant Mortal fertility, Run for Inclusion, every year the come with every new thing, he promises that the Association will support the 10th Edition with pasta party.
