Varsity students unveil hostel management portal
A team of third-year students at McPherson University has developed an innovative Hostel Allocation Management System, significantly improving the way student accommodation is managed.
Created in partnership with a registered IT training institute with the university, New-Horizon, the platform is set to enhance the student experience by streamlining hostel management processes.
This was contained in a statement by the school made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the web-based system allows students to book hostel rooms online, making the process more efficient and eliminating the need for manual methods.
“The portal provides a clear overview of available amenities, allowing students to make informed decisions about their accommodation.
“Students can submit maintenance requests directly through the portal, ensuring prompt and efficient resolution of any issues.
“The Hostel Portal serves as a centralised platform for communication between students and hostel management, facilitating timely updates and addressing concerns. The portal also promises anonymity and transparency in communication so as to avoid intimidation and harassment,” the statement read.
The project was a collaborative effort between the student developers and the university’s ICT directorate, which acted as a liaison to ensure the system met the needs of the student body.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments.
“We are immensely proud of our students for developing such a valuable tool. The Hostel Portal demonstrates their creativity, problem-solving skills, and commitment to improving the University Community,” he said.
