Anambra to begin measles vaccination
Anambra State is gearing up to protect over 1.1 million children through the 2024 integrated measles campaign with the goal of reducing the burden of the disease.
The State Health Educator at the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Mrs Uju Onwuegbuzina, revealed this on Tuesday, during a zonal meeting organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund and the National Orientation Agency in Enugu.
According to Onwuegbuzina, 1,227,113 doses of the vaccine have been secured to vaccinate children in the 330 wards of the 21 local government areas.
She said, “The measles campaign has been scheduled to run from October 12 to 18, 2024, and will be conducted in all designated health facilities and mobile posts in communities, churches, schools markets and anywhere children can be found.”
A social behavioural change specialist at UNICEF Field Office, Enugu, Dr Hillary Ozoh, emphasised that media engagement is crucial to achieving the national goal of 95 per cent coverage during the vaccination campaign.
Ozoh encouraged journalists to report on the campaign from any informative standpoint using databased stories to educate and enlighten the public on the importance of measles vaccination.
