South West senators hail passage of SWDC bill
The South West Senators Caucus has expressed happiness over the passage of the South West Development Commission Bill during the Senate session on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
In a statement issued by the Caucus Secretary, Senator Afolabi Salisu (APC, Ogun Central), the group said the bill was the result of a joint effort by all Senators from the South West.
They said it shows their commitment to advancing the interests of the South West within a united and prosperous Nigeria.
The main goal of the South West Development Commission is to support the development efforts of the six South West states and promote the region’s growth.
The commission will also complement the South West Development Agenda, a plan to improve the area.
The bill still needs approval from the House of Representatives before it can be signed into law by the President. However, the Caucus is confident that members from the South West in the House will also support its quick passage.
The group thanked the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, for their leadership in getting the bill passed.
“We are proud of this achievement and remain dedicated to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of Nigerians, especially those in the South West,” the statement concluded.
