2027 elections’ll be walk-over for APC, says ex-Senate president
A former President of the Senate, Senator Ameh Ebute on Monday said the victory by the ruling All Progressives Congress recorded in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State and its giant strides in recent times were indications that the 2027 general elections will be a walk in the park for the party.
This was even as the National Chairman of the APC, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, disclosed that the party planned to replicate the template of Edo’s success story to capture the remaining opposition states in the South.
The ruling party is presently in control of Ebonyi and Imo while Anambra, Abia, and Enugu are ruled by the opposition.
Both men addressed newsmen during a solidarity visit by the North Central APC Elders Forum to the party leadership at its secretariat in Abuja.
The development comes a few hours after a Federal High Court struck out a suit filed against Ganduje and barely 24 hours after the APC’s victory in Edo State.
Ebute said, “Our national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has delivered on his promise that we are going to take over Edo State and add it to the states controlled by the APC. We do not doubt your ability to lead this party to a higher level.
“The second success that you recorded this morning is in winning the suit filed against you at the Federal High Court for your removal as the National Chairman. We are happy that the suit was struck out and that makes it a second victory you recorded in 24 hours. It is unbelievable.
“The North Central elders have come to congratulate you on recording these achievements. We made an undertaking that we are solidly behind you and will continue to support tour administration for taking our party, the APC to the next level.
“We do not doubt that with these steps you have taken, the 2027 election is going to be a walkover for all our candidates. We urge you to keep it up and pray to God to give you long life, good health, and the wherewithal to move the party forward.”
While appreciating the delegation for the vote of confidence, the former Kano governor emphasised that the recent victories recorded were proof that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda was working.
The APC national chairman also disclosed that the ruling party is seeking to capture the remaining three South Eastern states at the next governorship elections.
He said, “The South East has five states. But two of them belong to our big party, the APC. So we will see how we can recover many States in our favour. I now formally close (the Edo election situation room). We assure you that the party is an institution that will continue to recruit more members. So the election two days ago (Saturday) is a testimony that the efforts are yielding fruits. There is no doubt that fighting an incumbent government is not easy.
‘We thank you for coming and also congratulate Mr President, the party and all members. I have no doubt the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President Bola Tinubu is working, and it will continue to work. We know that times are hard but this is the effect of those reforms, which are necessary to realise our objectives. Since you the North Central Central elders, your governors, and executives are behind us, we don’t fear any baseless allegation.”
