As of 12.10 pm on Saturday, a former deputy governor of Edo State, Mr Philip Shaibu, had yet to cast his vote as the BIVAS machine for voters accreditation and onward voting did not function.

Many voters at Unit 5, Ward 11 at Azama Primary School, in Azama, Estako West Local Government Area of the state, were waiting for the INEC officials to change or repair the machine in order to exercise their civic rights.

Reaction to the development in a chat with reporters, Shuaibu said the incident was disappointing but he expressed optimism that the electoral officers would change the bivas for the people to vote.

He said, “We have been here since, and the machine is not working while the reports I’m getting from other units in this local government, they didn’t have such an issue. It is only here.

“But I would not conclude yet that it is an act of sabotage because the INEC officer has assured us that they would bring another one that is functioning and extend the time of voting to enable us to vote. I can also see that the INEC people are working on it.”
