Makinde who represents Ondo East/Ondo West Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, offered the gifts to the beneficiaries with his wife under the auspices of an organisation, Honourable Abiola Makinde and Dr. Rhoda Makinde Initiative in collaboration with O’datiwa Political Movement.
At the distribution of the palliative items at Ita-Ogbolu, the headquarters of the local government, on Monday, the federal lawmaker, who was represented by an official of the HAMDROMI, Mrs. Ruth Lawal, said the gesture was part of the efforts to alleviate economic hardship in the rural areas of the state.
According to him, the beneficiaries of the gesture were specifically women living in communities in the council area which include, Igoba, Ita-Ogbolu, Iju and Ayede-Ogbese, among others.
He said, “The programme was borne out of a desire to cushion the effect of the prevailing economic hardship on women, not only in Ondo East and West Federal Constituency but also in Akure, the Ondo State capital and the Akure North Local Government.
“A similar exercise has been carried out at Oba Ile ( also in Akure North LGA). I was to appeal to you women to continue supporting the incumbent administration at all levels for more dividends of democracy.”
In her remarks, the All Progressives Congress chairperson in the local government, Mrs Modupe Akande, commended Makinde and his wife for extending the kind gesture beyond Ondo East/ Ondo West Federal Constituency.
“We women should continue supporting the current administration, and to be more active politically. Women have a very crucial role to play in the political development of the state and even the country at large,” she encouraged.
Another chieftain of the APC, Mrs Temitope Olorunlogo, described the event as a welcome development that should be emulated by other well-meaning individuals.
She stated, “This is a sign of the love and concern that the sponsors of this programme have for women. It shows that they recognise the place of women as a major force in democracy.”
