Fayose’s supporters fault Ekiti PDP caretaker committee
The Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee, on Saturday, received knocks over the composition of the caretaker committee for the Ekiti State chapter of the party.
The NWC, in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Friday, announced the composition of a 19-member caretaker committee for Ekiti State PDP headed by Dare Adeleke following the expiration of the tenure of the State Working Committee.
However, in a statement in Ado Ekiti on Saturday, Lere Olayinka, media aide to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, described the composition of the caretaker committee as an “exercise of the NWC of the party’s discretion, which will not foreclose the exercise of the discretion of others.”
Olayinka said Fayose’s supporters would exercise their discretion just as the PDP National Working Committee had done in the caretaker committee composition for the state.
He said, “The NWC has a discretion, and they have exercised it. However, everybody who has discretion cannot foreclose the counter discretion the other parties can also exercise. We don’t have powers over their discretion, and at the appropriate time, they won’t have powers over our own discretion too.
“They have exercised their rights, and as stakeholders in the party, too, we will exercise our own rights in due course. Furthermore, discretion and action operate within the short, medium and long term. At the appropriate time, those of us who are with Fayose in the PDP will freely and openly exercise our discretion.
“Therefore, we welcome their decision because it is within the purview of their powers to do so. Unfortunately, when our own short, medium and long-term discretions are exercised, this present NWC will not be in the office. But it shall not but come with necessary consequences,” he stated.
