Osun IRS to seal off tax-defiant businesses
The Osun State Internal Revenue Service has said it would begin clamping down on business premises that have failed to fulfil their tax obligations to the government.
According to a statement by the Information Officer of the agency, Oluwaseun Ayeni, obtained on Saturday, the chairman of OIRS, Mr. Adesola Adewumi, during an awareness campaign held in Osogbo to demand compliance from the business owners, said by Monday, the government would seal off defaulting business premises.
Adewumi, who was represented at the awareness campaign, gave all tax defaulting businesses in the state another grace to pay up their dues before the clamp down would begin.
The OIRS chairman, who was represented by the Director Legal and Enforcement of the Agency, Mr. Deji Atoyebi, said the statewide enforcement was due by May.
“The board of OIRS had concluded plans to begin tax enforcement against defaulters if they continue to fail in fulfilling their tax obligations to the state government.
“We therefore advise all tax defaulting businesses in the state to avoid any inconveniences that may arise during the closure.
“The businesses have been served with harmonised demand notices to do the needful before the state would embark on enforcement/closure to bring the defaulters to book.
“We admonish those who are yet to be served a harmonized demand notice to go to any OIRS tax station nearest to them or visit www.ecg.ng/requestosunbill to request for their own immediately,” Adewumi said.
He subsequently advised tax defaulters who have received bills to settle their tax liabilities, to avoid interruptions in their operations.
