Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Launches Computer-Based Testing for Students
The Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo ( RUGIPO) has commenced the computer-based examination for its students.
Speaking on the initiative, the Acting Rector of the polytechnic, Mr Olorunwa Adegun. said that the innovation was the first of its kind in the annals of the school’s existence.
“ This innovation is in a significant move towards modernizing the old examination system in the institution, as the institution officially commenced computer-based on line examinations in the on going first semester examination for the 2023/2024 academic session.
“The new change commenced with the National Diploma 1 and Higher National Diploma 1 students covering cognate registered courses in their varying field of studies.
“The idea, online examination, was borne out of the need to enhance efficiency, accuracy, prudent management of fund and to facilitate the immediate release of student results.
“The transition is also expected to streamline the examination process and reduce administrative burdens,” he said.
The Polytechnic Community, particularly the entire student populace have expressed their admiration for the change, highlighting its potentials towards preparing them for the digital demands from employers of labour.
The move is also seen as a step towards aligning RUGIPO with global educational standards.
Also speaking , the Chairman, Computer-Based Test Committee, Mr R. O. Asogua, emphasized the strategic planning and necessary upgradings made to facilitate a smooth transition and to have a result oriented computer-based examination.
Asogua explained that a comprehensive training session was conducted for both staff and students to familiarize them with the new system and in ensuring minimal disruption during the implementation phase.
“As the institution embraces this new technological advancement, stakeholders anticipate that the innovation will contribute to the polytechnic’s academic excellence and competitiveness within the comity of higher institutions of learning .
“This computer -based examination will underscore a commitment to educational reform, and aim at positioning the institution as a trailblazer in leveraging technology for the enhancement of learning,” he stated.
He, therefore, appreciated the good job done by the committee and the acting rector of the institution.
