Tinubu’s wife distributes foodstuffs to Nasarawa IDPs
The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, distributed food items worth millions of Naira to over 1,200 Internally Displaced Persons, People Living With Disability and other vulnerable residents of Nasarawa State.
Speaking during the exercise in Lafia, she said the gesture was part of the ‘Renewed Hope’ initiative under the Social Investment Programme of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Tinubu, who was represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajiya Nana Shetima, further disclosed that apart from the food items being distributed, a total of 1,000 women across the 13 local government areas of the state would receive N50,000 each as a grant, as financial support from the Renewed Hope initiative.
“I’m delighted to be in Lafia today for the official hand-over and symbolic presentation of food items to Internally Displaced Persons, People Living With Disabilities and other vulnerable groups in Nasarawa State, under the Renewed Hope Initiative food outreach scheme, as part of our Social Investment Programme.
“The food outreach scheme is specially designed to provide support to the underprivileged, in line with the resolve of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to leave no one behind in ensuring food security and sufficiency in the country.
“Under this scheme, a trailer load of assorted food items is being donated to the state government for onward distribution to identified groups. So far, the Federal Capital Territory, Kano State and Nasarawa State have benefited from the scheme, under the Social Investment Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative.
“Also, I am happy to announce that the Renewed Hope Initiative governing council has graciously approved a grant of N50,000 to 1,000 women in each state of the country, as part of our women’s economic empowerment programme.
“I, therefore, would want to express my sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule, for his continuous support of our programmes. I would also want to thank the First Lady and Renewed Hope Initiative State Coordinator, Hajiya Silifat Sule, for the warm reception and her constant support,” she said.
The governor, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe, pointed out that Nigerians were going through pains at the moment, but assured that in no distant time, the pains would be forgotten, given the laudable policies of the Federal Government.
He said the food distribution exercise was part of efforts to ameliorate the hardship being experienced by Nigerians, which was occasioned by the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Earlier in her speech, Hajiya Sule, while welcoming dignitaries from the Federal Capital Territory to the state, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the food items in their respective homes.
Our correspondent reports that the food items distributed included bags of rice; bags of semovita, cartons of spaghetti, and cartons of Macaroni, among others.
