Otti repairing Abia after 24 years in wilderness—Obi of Onitsha
Relief has come to Abia after 24 years in the wilderness, says Obi of Onitsha, HRH Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe.
The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, on Friday, said relief has come to Abia State after 24 years of allegedly being in the wilderness.
Achebe while inaugurating three roads—Old Court Road, Ehi Road, and Kent Road—reconstructed by the Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, stating, “Otti is God-sent. After 24 years in the wilderness (of the state), Otti has come to repair Abia State and Aba.
“Aba used to be number one in business and industry, but since one year ago Otti came in, things have changed. By God’s grace, the changes will continue like that for the four years he will be in office.
“You put him there and must support him to deliver a democracy dividend to you.”
Speaking, the state governor said he was motivated to reconstruct the roads after inspections, expressing his happiness that “three months down the line, the roads are standing.”
He said, “This is your government, and the most important thing is for your government to work for you,” and he thanked the contractor and the direct labour agency under the state Ministry of Works for the job.
The governor disclosed that he will soon start the reconstruction of Enyimba Hotels Aba into a five-star hotel and a convention centre, stating that all these are geared towards making Aba one of the best cities in the country.
Earlier, the state Commissioner for Works, Otumchere Otti, disclosed the length of Old Court Road to be 561 metres, while that of Kent Road is 1.2 kilometres, all with drainages and solar-powered street lights.
According to him, the inauguration is a result of “promise kept and adherence to the yearning of the people,” stating that Old Court Road used to be a refuse dump and criminal hideout, while Kent used to be a pool of water.
Also speaking, the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa, assured of a robust working relationship with Otti for the good of the state.
