First anniversary: Tinubu committed to reducing cost of living, boosting economy – Minister
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, on Thursday, announced that President Bola Tinubu was fully dedicated to lowering the cost of living and business operations across Nigeria.
The President, who was sworn in on May 29, 2023, will clock one year in office next Wednesday.
Idris had, on Wednesday, May 22, said there would be no ceremony to mark President Tinubu’s first anniversary in office.
Idris said instead of a celebration, ministers in the President’s cabinet would be featured in sectoral briefings to give an account of their stewardship, starting today (Thursday).
Speaking at the opening of the Ministerial Sectoral briefing in Abuja, Idris highlighted the President’s commitment to increasing the financial well-being of Nigerians by putting more money into their pockets.
Additionally, he emphasised efforts to attract both local and foreign investments, aiming to significantly transform the nation’s infrastructure.
The Minister assured that the administration would not pause or relent until it has successfully delivered truly renewed hope to all Nigerians.
He said, “As I noted in my remarks at an event on the Renewed Hope Agenda, last week, I do not doubt that life will get better for the people of Nigeria. We have already started laying that solid and enduring foundation, over the last 12 months.
“Landmark initiatives like the Consumer Credit Corporation, the Nigeria Education Loan Fund, Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas, the 200billion naira Presidential Grant and Loan Scheme, our Agriculture and Food Security efforts (including the launch of Dry Season Farming, and massive fertilizer distribution), the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund,” among others, “are policies and programmes that will directly touch and improve the lives and livelihoods of tens of millions of Nigerians.
“President Tinubu is wholly committed to ensuring that we bring down the cost of living and doing business in Nigeria, to put more money into the pockets of Nigerians, attract more local and foreign investment, and transform our nation’s infrastructure.
“And we will not pause or relent until we have delivered truly renewed hope to all Nigerians.”
The ministers scheduled to speak today include the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Minister of Youth Development, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim; the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu; Minister of Health, Muhammad Pate; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru; Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The briefings are expected to offer insights into the advancements and challenges within their respective ministries, providing a transparent overview of the administration’s efforts and accomplishments during its first year.
