AAUA, Survey and Geoinformatics Students Gain Hands-on Experience at FUTA Excursion
As part of our academic curriculum, the Department of Survey and Geoinformatics at Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) recently embarked on an exciting excursion to the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA). This trip provided us with a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of surveying, and we were thrilled to learn from our experienced lecturers.
During the excursion, our lecturer taught us how to effectively utilize various surveying instruments, including the Total Station, Theodolite, Drone, and leveling instruments. We were shown how to set up and operate these instruments, and we gained a deeper understanding of their applications in real-world surveying scenarios.
In addition to learning about these instruments, we also had the chance to participate in practical exercises, including Compass Survey, Chain Survey, and Temporary Adjustment. These hands-on activities allowed us to put our knowledge into practice and develop our skills in surveying.
The Compass Survey exercise taught us how to determine directions and bearings using a compass, while the Chain Survey exercise showed us how to measure distances and angles using a chain and tape. The Temporary Adjustment exercise, on the other hand, taught us how to adjust and level instruments to ensure accurate measurements.
Throughout the excursion, our lecturers provided guidance and support, ensuring that we understood each concept and technique. We were also encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussions, which further enhanced our learning experience.
This excursion was an invaluable experience for us as survey and geoinformatics students. We gained practical knowledge and skills that will benefit us in our future careers, and we developed a deeper appreciation for the importance of surveying in various fields, including construction, mapping, and environmental monitoring.>
We would like to express our gratitude to our lecturers and the Department of Survey and Geoinformatics at AAUA for organizing this excursion. We look forward to future opportunities to apply our skills and knowledge in real-world settings.
