…as Apoi thanked him for the political placement of their wards
…Arogbo people said he is the only aspirant that visited them
On Wednesday 17th April, 2024, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, and members of the Campaign Council, visited Ese-Odo local government, with pump and pageantry, in continuation of his engagements with select unit, ward and local government leaders in APC. This is as he rounded off his local government tours, in preparation for the party primary holding on Saturday 20th April, 2024.
At Igbekebo, where the team was received with great excitement, Oke was appreciated for contributing to the political placements of people from the local government in the House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate.
Assessing the gathering, Oke led the people to observe a minute silence, each, for Late Arakunrin Akeredolu and Paul Akintelure. He then outlined his intention for the state in the areas of agriculture, education, infrastructural development, party support and welfare of the people of Ondo State, when elected as the flag bearer of the APC, and Ondo State governor.
Oke and his team later took boats to cross to Arogbo where he was first received at the palace of Agadagba of Arogbo Ijaw by the Queen and other Chiefs, led by the second in command, His Highness Joseph Feku, due to the non availability of the King, who was on a traditional obligation.
Oke told the Chiefs that Ondo State people are united by destiny, given their heterogeneity. He enumerated the efforts made by Agagu to build roads across the sea, and improve the lots of the people.
“I am part and parcel of you. We share peculiar challenges. The palace only plays developmental politics. We need an indigenous governor that is familiar with our challenges”.
“I will transform our physical landscape, by building bridges and jetties. I will enhance the capacity of our people. I will ensure we enjoy the benefits of our resources; oil, logging, fishing, gin, etc.”
At the meeting with party members, Oke thanked them for electing President Tinubu, Senator Ibrahim and Hon. Donald Ojogo in the last general elections, and spoke about his plans for the state, when elected as the candidate of the party and governor of Ondo State. He noted the remarkable impact he made in the area when he had the opportunity to serve in the NDDC and OSOPADEC.
“I am one of you. I was part of the pains and challenges – a fisherman, teacher, swimmer, and boat driver. I will understand your plight better as governor”.
“I am an Arogbo Chieftancy holder. I rose in your defense, and fought for your entitlement, even when some people recriminated. I will support the capacity of the people, and develop this environment. Of all the aspirants, I am the most experienced”.
Oke and members of his entourage took boats rides on water for several kilometres to visit select unit, ward and local government leaders in Opuba Uparamo and Ugbonla, where he reiterated his message of hope, after appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the inclusive initiative of direct primary, encouraging the people not to abuse the opportunity.
“I am a mariner. For the first time, you will have an indigenous governor in me. We suffer the same pollution, environmental degradation, and I will solve the problems seamlessly”.
“Vote for me: you will vote for employment, skill acquisition, capacity building”.
Oke asked the people whether they wanted eight years or four years, and the people shouted they wanted eight years.
Assuring that there will be a new order, and a new song for the Riverine people and the good people of Ondo State, different speakers at the engagements expressed their commitment to the actualisation of the dream of Oke, noting that he was the only aspirant that visited the difficult terrain of Arogbo Ijaw.
