Pensioners flay poor living conditions, seek pension review
Pensioners under the aegis of the Federal Civil Service Pensioners, an affiliate of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, have decried the poor living conditions that senior citizens have been subjected to.
The union also called for an immediate review of the 2015 outstanding pension, noting that pensioners in the country were dehumanised, marginalised and neglected with reckless abandon.
The National President of the body, Sunday Omezi, made this known to Saturday PUNCH in Abuja.
Speaking concerning the 2015 outstanding pension of pensioners who retired under the Federal Civil Service, Omezi said that the pension which was a statutory service contractual agreement with the status of deferred salary, that accounted for its definition as Defined Benefits Scheme was a constitutional right and privilege of the beneficiary.
He, however, noted that in the payment of pensions, the 2015 outstanding pension review was skipped and called on the government to revisit it.
“We request for a revisit to the 2015 outstanding pension review which appears to have been skipped. We have been crying profusely over the years through several official representations to the government, but our yelling has been deliberately ignored,” he said.
