Foundation begins feeding initiative for indigent children
In response to the alarming rise in childhood hunger rates across the world, a Lagos-based not-for-profit organisation, Dominic Joshua Foundation, has begun a feeding initiative for indigent students across the country.
This was disclosed at the foundation’s retreat which held at Eko Hotel and Suite on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, the founder, Dr Dominic Joshua said with the recent statistics from the World Food Programme revealing that about 840 million people are expected to be hungry by 2030, a significant increase on the 690 million undernourished people in the world today, and even further from the goal of zero hunger by 2030.
“We believe that no child should ever have to go to bed hungry. Through our comprehensive approach to combatting childhood hunger, we are dedicated to creating a world where every child has access to nutritious food and the opportunity to thrive.
“Hence we have joined other world organisations in the fight against childhood hunger by making donations, volunteering our time, and advocating for policy changes. With the collective support of the community, our foundation aims to make a lasting impact on the lives of millions of children and families in need.”
Continuing, Joshua stressed that his foundation plans to expand its reach and scale up its initiatives to reach even more communities in need by leveraging the power of collaboration, innovation, and compassion.
“One of the cornerstone initiatives of our foundation’s campaign is the establishment of community-based food distribution centers, strategically located in areas with high rates of food insecurity.
“Through partnerships with local farmers, food banks, and government agencies, these centers will provide nutritious meals to children and their families, ensuring they have access to essential nutrients for healthy growth and development.”
Furthermore, Joshua noted that his foundation plans to implement educational programmes focused on promoting nutrition literacy and cultivating healthy eating habits among children and their caregivers by partnering with schools, community centers, and healthcare providers, the foundation aims to empower families with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their dietary choices.
