Policemen who misbehave are uncultured, deviants – FPRO
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has described policemen who misbehave as not well cultured and deviants.
He said it was ethically wrong and unacceptable for any police officer to disobey or disrespect the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
This was just as he stated that it was wrong for any officer to violate the rules and regulations of the force.
Adejobi made this known on Tuesday while responding to a Netizen, @Boy_Cyril, who inquired for clarification on the conduct of police officers in their line of duty.
According to @Boy_Cyril, some policemen usually threaten innocent citizens with jail term if advised to obey the IGP’s directives on their conduct in the line of duty.
He noted that when confronted with the advice, some policemen would make statements like “Call the IGP or you will go to jail”, knowing that the citizen doesn’t have the IGP’s phone number.
@Boy_Cyril wrote, “Thank you for all your efforts to make the NPF great because there are so many bad eggs inside. If you tell them IGP said you guys can’t do this, they will say call IGP or you will go to jail, like say my papa sef get IGP number.”
Responding, the Force PRO noted that it is an act of indiscipline for any policeman to conduct himself/herself in that manner.
He stressed that contrary to popular belief, it is more of a personal trait than a police system thing to act in such a manner.
Adejobi said, “It’s an act of indiscipline for a policeman to ask you to call the IGP or any senior officer in a situation like that.
“And its to reaffirm that some of them who misbehave are not well cultured and are deviants.
“Let’s call a spade a spade. It’s a personal thing, not a system thing.
“It’s not proper and not acceptable for a policeman to disobey or disrespect the directive of the IGP or violate the rules and regulations of the police.”
