Kanu: Deputy speaker hails S’Court for releasing judgment CTC
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has commended the Supreme Court of Nigeria for releasing the Certified True Copy of its December 15, 2024 judgment on the detention of the leader of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.
The Peace In South East Project, a brainchild of the Deputy Speaker had on Monday, January 22, joined Kalu’s family and lawyers to appeal to the apex court to take action on the matter, especially in the light of the expiration of the 14 days window given by law for signing the document.
Not too long afterwards, the authorities heeded the call and made the CTC available.
In his reaction to the development on Tuesday in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabwugiogu, Kalu applauded the Supreme Court for obliging the request, saying that the apex court hearkened to the voice of reasoning.
Kalu also thanked the Army, the Police, the Department of State Services and other security agencies for helping to sustain the peace in the southeast.
“While we commend the Supreme Court for heeding the voice of the people, we urge the people of the South East not to lose hope,” the statement read in part, assuring all that efforts were being made to secure Kanu’s release.
He charged the people to continue to maintain the peace in the region, stressing the Federal Government is wholly committed to the development of the region.
Kalu. who represents Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State also commended the people for heeding the call to end the sit-at-home observed on Mondays, asking them to completely make it a thing of the past as it has not in any measure added to their socio-economic well-being.
He added that the PISE-P is working together with the Federal Government and the Governors of the five eastern states of the zone to ensure that its pillar of reconciliation, rehabilitation and reconstruction is achieved within the shortest possible time.
