Abia plans emergency measures as measles hits two LGs
The Abia State Government has expressed worry about the spread of measles in two local government areas in the state.
This came as the state said its first modular refinery was on the way.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, on Tuesday, after this week’s Executive Council meeting.
He identified the two local governments affected by measles as Arochukwu and Umunneochi.
The commissioner said the state Ministry of Health was doing all it could to prevent the spread of the disease to other areas in the state.
He called on Abians to be watchful and do all they could not to contract the virus.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Ngozi Okoronkwo, explained that the Ministry of Health was already mopping up to identify the affected children to forestall further spread.
The commissioner also said the first Abia modular refinery was on the way in the state as part of Abia Industrial Park in Ukwa West in 2025.
According to him, if done, it will go a long way to provide jobs to over 2000 people.
