Tinubu, petroleum ministers to attend Nigeria’s 2024 energy summit
As the world seeks clean energy sources to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, President Bola Tinubu will join other stakeholders in Abuja to discuss the new energy world order.
This is as the seventh edition of the Nigeria International Energy Summit holds between February 26 and March 1, 2024.
According to information on its X handle on Friday, the Nigeria International Energy Summit announced the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board as “a confirmed Platinum Sponsor for NIES2024”.
The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri and the Minister of State Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, are also expected to be part of the discussion.

The new energy world order refers to the changing landscape of the energy sector as renewable energy sources gain prominence, displacing the old energy world order dominated by fossil fuels.
NIES 2024 is a Federal Government official energy, oil and gas event, co-hosted by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited.
The summit would bring together over 1,000 key decision-makers in the energy sector from Africa and beyond.
Various local and international organisations in the energy sector were also listed as co-hosts and sponsors.
The Event Producer, Brevity Anderson, had said on X that, “NIES2024 is the premier Energy, Oil and Gas meeting of the Federal Government of Nigeria. This edition creates the platform as Nigeria and Africa continue to activate plans that will enable us to remain relevant and ahead in the global transition.”
The PUNCH reports that the Tinubu administration is putting efforts in top gear to build a gas-powered economy in Nigeria before 2030.
The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative said recently that the government was looking towards establishing 40,000 auto gas conversion workshops and creating 750,000 jobs by 2027.
The PCNGi described the Tinubu CNG initiative as the government’s “ambitious plan to put one million gas-powered vehicles on the road by 2027, at an average annual rate of 250,000 vehicle conversions yearly”.
PUNCH reports that the Federal Government has also exempted CNG, LPG, electric vehicles and others from Value Added Tax and import duty.
All these, it was learnt, are geared towards ensuring Nigeria is not left behind in the new energy order, especially as the world hopes to replace fossil fuels with clean and renewable energy sources.
