Niger clears N205m WASC fees debt
The Niger State Government said it has cleared the backlog of the West African School Certificate fee indebtedness.
The government which said it cleared a debt of N205 million also disclosed that it had been paying N30 million monthly to offset its indebtedness to the National Examination Council, to also clear its debt with the council.
The governor’s Senior Adviser on Print Media, Aisha Wakaso, who made this known on Tuesday during a press briefing, said the government will continue to pay examination fees for Niger state indigenes.
“Niger state has cleared its backlog of debt to WASC which stood at N205,016 million and will continue to pay NECO N30 million every month to offset its debt,” she said.
Wakaso also disclosed that the state government has also brought in some samples of the Compressed Natural Gas luxury buses which are designed to replace the fuel-propelled vehicles.
She reiterated that the government would purchase 200 of the CNG vehicles valued at N7 billion.
The state commissioner for land and survey, Maurice Magaji, in his remarks, disclosed that Governor Mohammed Bago’s urban renewal programme was on stream as the contractors have moved their heavy-duty machines to the affected communities.
He noted that the contractors are going to be employing both skilled and unskilled Niger youths.
Magaji also said the registration of land in Niger state has been made more accessible to everyone and the government is ensuring that the state is developed with the contribution of the private sector.
The special adviser to the governor on Social Investment, Hauwa Mohammed, also spoke in the briefing and disclosed that the State would integrate the Federal government’s social investment programmes of poverty alleviation and youth Empowerment for Niger State.
