High performing UTME student honoured in Edo


The Edo State House of Assembly honoured 15-year-old Gold Ajagun for his educational excellence by making him a one-day speaker on Thursday.

Ajagun, who is from Ososo in Akoko-Edo local government area of the state, scored 335 in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and obtained eight A1s in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination at the Gloryland Secondary School.

He also got a one-year sponsorship from the speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, while another member, representing Akoko Edo II, Donald Okogbe gave him N1m scholarship.

As a one-day Speaker, Ajagun presided over a mock sitting of the State House of Assembly where he called on the state government to increase budgetary allocation for the education sector to enable all children of school age to acquire basic and good education.

While receiving him, Agbebaku expressed delight in Ajagun’s accomplishment, noting that the future of the state and nation is guaranteed with the academic excellence of the youths.


“I am delighted with Ajagun for what he has accomplished. It shows that the future of the state and country is secured under youth like Ajagun. I will be sponsoring him for one year to inspire others.

Okogbe also said the scholarship scheme would become an annual event for his constituency for the next four, adding, “I am excited by the feat achieved by Ajagun.”

Besides, he said Ajagun would undergo a three-month computer training before school resumption to prepare him for the next academic journey and called on good-spirited individuals to support Ajagun in the actualisation of his lifelong ambition of becoming a medical doctor.

The lawmaker who chairs the committee on Information at the Edo State House of Assembly observed that with the magnanimity of the Speaker, the first two years of Master Ajagun in the university had been taken care of.

Also, a popular fashion designer, Gini Couture, has promised to support the youth prodigy by replenishing his wardrobe.
