BALAAM, BALAK AND BOLA TINUBU

By JESUTEGA ONOKPASA

There is this currently circulating video of a prayer request at a church service, supposedly in Germany, which seems rather genuine except, perhaps, for the fact that it is conducted in English.

It is possible that a Nigerian living in Germany, and who attends a church in which services are conducted in English, had made the request (most ethnic Germans can speak English, anyway).

Real or fake, I’m rather inclined to say “Amen” to the prayer since, strictly theologically speaking, it is perfectly okay because the priest just says a typically solemn, disciplined Catholic prayer for peace and justice regarding this tsunami in a teacup over a degree President Bola Tinubu has been confirmed to have actually acquired by the university that awarded it.

In any case, I know for a fact that President Tinubu won the election and that his traducers are only trying to steal it from him.

But, most importantly, I know that my God is solidly on my President’s side.

While I cannot account for the motive of whomever might had made the prayer request, for some reason, it reminds me of an episode wherein Pastor Paul Enenche, while clearly intending to denigrate President Tinubu and promote Peter Obi, only ended up describing the grace of God upon the life of his target, President Tinubu, without even realizing it!

The lesson in the episode of Balaam and Balak in The Holy Bible can be wrapped up as “no one can curse whom God has blessed”, which I would say is an encapsulation of Bola Tinubu’s life, generally, but even more particularly so this last election cycle.

Indeed, may that be our portion in our individual lives as well.
