Nasarawa Assembly calls for calm amid protest over alleged sale of liaison office
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged its indigenes in Lagos State who had been protesting the alleged sale of the state’s liaison office by the immediate past governor of the state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to be calm as members of the assembly were investigating the matter.
The assembly had set up a 9-man ad-hoc committee led by Hon. Larry Ven Bawa to launch a detailed investigation into the matter.
Speaking on the team’s arrival in Lagos on Thursday, the chairman led other honourable members to the building located at plot 1234 Bishop Oluwole, Victoria Island, to inspect the entire structure.
After inspecting the two-storey building, Bawa said, “We are here as directed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi based on our resolutions during the House proceedings to investigate the alleged sales of state government properties in Lagos and other states by the administration of former governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
“Also, to find out the real cause of the protest by our citizens in Lagos, see the building, know our people’s condition and situations, especially those arrested as well as investigate if the building was sold, who bought it, the transaction process and if the money was deposited to the state government coffer or not.”
The committee chairman, therefore, advised the protesting indigenes to stop the protests, assuring them that the State Assembly will thoroughly investigate the matter.
On his part, the President of Nasarawa State Development Association, Lagos chapter, Musa Ikushigya appreciated the visit by the lawmakers and promised to give them the opportunity to investigate the matter.
