FGGC Benin plans 50th anniversary

The Federal Government Girls’ College Benin Old Girls Association has unveiled plans to mark the school 50th anniversary.

While addressing newsmen on Wednesday, the chairperson, Board of Trustees, FGGC Old Girls Association, Eyono Fatayi-Williams, said the anniversary, titled, ‘50 years of inspiring young minds,’ commemorated half a century since FGGC Benin commenced on October 15, 1973.

She revealed that the jubilee celebration would start from October 12th to 15th, 2023, in Benin City, saying FGGC Benin had produced more than 40 sets of accomplished women who had left their mark on the national and global stage across various fields, including the wife of the Edo State Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki.

She said, “Alumni worldwide are actively participating in renovation projects, including the school’s dining halls. In sponsoring electrification and clinic refurbishment projects.

“We as a foundation set up to give back and to ensure that we have a structure that allows all the young girls who have come to FGGC to express themselves through the alumni,”


“ One thing we do is support each other as sisters, all the members of the alumni are sisters, we also make sure that we give back to the school, in the form of scholarships, mentoring, and coaching sessions, we support the teachers, the staffs and the students.”

President, Lagos chapter of FGGC Benin Old Girls Association, Elozino Olaniran, unveiled a book, called ‘Coffee Table Book.’

She said it aimed at inspiring the students with life skills.

“We are going to give them health talks, health checks, career talks, encourage them as big sisters to aim high,” she said.
