Ogun students advise ethnic groups
The National Association of Ogun State Students Association has called for peaceful coexistence among the different ethnicities in the state.
Speaking at the 2023 Omo Ogun Day ceremony, titled, ‘The role of culture in people from mixed origin,’ which was held at the Lagos State University Science and Technology, Ikorodu, Principal, Topdeal College, Ikorodu, Dr Oladimeji Akinola, advised that there was the need to promote acceptance of various cultures, and knowledge sharing for development and progress.
He said, “How to infuse various cultures is one of the problems facing Nigeria today. Ethnic discrimination has prevailed in our polity today. Apart from this major discrimination, there is internal discrimination. In Ogun State for example we have different tribes, and if you get to the state house today, you will be hearing Egba has governed for four years, it is Ijebu’s or Yewa’s turn. We should not let our ethnicity determine our future. Irrespective of your tribe or origin, let’s embrace and tolerate each other in love. We need to promote cultural peace, love, and knowledge among ourselves. We are one.”
An alumnus of LASUTECH, Azeez Ogunyemi, added, “Ogun State is a land of milk and honey. The governor, Dapo Abiodun, is from Ijebu Remo. Many renowned persons have emerged from the great state, including Obefemi Awolowo, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Adewale Ayuba, and Olamide Afrobeat singer.”
