Gov Fintiri inaugurates 10 new Permanent Secretaries
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, of Adamawa State, has inaugurated 10 new Permanent Secretaries into the state civil service.
Inaugurating the new Permanent Secretaries, Fintiri said his administration had reformed the process of selecting candidates for appointment as permanent Secretaries, in a manner that ensures appointments into such exalted positions were done purely on merit devoid of parochial considerations.
He said, “We have subdued mediocrity and upheld the triumph of merit in progression in the service. We have overhauled the process of selecting candidates for appointment as Permanent Secretaries in the state.
“To engender transparency and ensure appointments to such exalted positions are done purely on merit devoid of parochial considerations, we have introduced examination to be conducted by an independent examiner – the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria. And ensured that the result of such examinations is made public.”
Fintiri further added that the reform of the civil service by his administration is meant to reposition the service for efficiency and enhanced productivity.
One of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, Solomon Kumangar, who until now, was the Director-General Media and Communications, Adamawa State Government House Yola, commenting on his new appointment said only the best within the service got elevated to the pinnacle of the service.
Kumangar explained that since Fintiri became Governor of Adamawa, the appointment of Permanent Secretaries, has assumed a “transparent, systematic and organised process to ensure that selection of Permanent Secretaries is done purely on merit.
“Before we coming to this point for we the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, our papers were screened and those of us who were found worthy were allowed to sit for the examination. Besides the written examination, we also participated in the oral interview.
“The catch here is that the examination is an external examination conducted by an independent examiner — the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria. And only the best among us who excelled in the examination were appointed.”
